Overview

What this project needed to solve

TrashApp represents a leading technological initiative in environmental sustainability, aiming to revolutionize waste management in Indonesia by integrating Smart Trash Bags with a mobile application.

This project addresses a critical environmental issue while leveraging technology to create a practical and impactful solution. TrashApp was developed in response to direct data research conducted with scavengers and residents in Malang, who raised significant concerns about waste disposal.

The app allows users to dispose of waste at the nearest Smart Trash Bag and claim rewards through the TrashApp. Additionally, users can request waste collection directly from their homes. This dual functionality simplifies waste disposal for users and aids waste banks in managing waste more efficiently.

One of the main challenges faced was ensuring the system was accessible for a diverse population, including both tech-savvy individuals and those less familiar with technology. This was addressed by conducting extensive user testing and iterating on the feedback to refine the app's usability.

Reflection

What this case says about how I work.

Start from the real workflow before deciding the interface structure.

Make system states visible so users know what happened and what to do next.

Write interface copy that reduces follow-up questions, not just fills empty space.
